Some Very Similar Marvel and DC Characters

I’ve talked about this, written about this and thought about this. I’ve even put together a giant list. But I just want to touch on this issue again.

Just because he’s everywhere I’ll start with Deadpool. Let’s first with Deadpool doing a copy of the infamous Spider-Man first cover.

But Deadpool is basically Marvel’s answer to Deathstroke. Wade Wilson and Slade Wilson. And just like with Marvel Zombies; the Marvel character is for fun and the DC one is serious.

This is a strange one, but a lot of people may not know this convoluted history. So maybe the fantastic four were not a totally original idea, and maybe they also have spawned a lot of copy cats. I have heard people talk about the DC Comics team the Challengers of the Unknown being the ORIGINAL team with matching suits and a female team member. Then later (see picture) there came this DC Comic character named Cyborg Superman. Cyborg Superman is supposed to have been part of a team that stole a spacecraft and went on an unauthorized flight. On the flight they were “exposed to rays” that changed them physically.

Of course there is a TREMENDOUS amount of fun poked. I mean take a look at this DC character that made an appearance in one issue. A purple Hulk?

The comics world is big and broad. But the world of people who work in that industry is NOT. Writers and artist go back and forth from not only the big 2 but up and down the chain of smaller comic book companies. I can understand the joking but ‘m not a big fan of the blatant theft. It happens so much though I have to ask am I the one who’s wrong? Is it just the “way” of the industry? I don’t live in that world, so what do I know. But as a fan it’s fun when it’s fun but the stealing is weird.

Let’s say I was going to make a movie and decided to take elements from here and there and change them a little here and change things a little there would it be cool? How much is too much? Is a little thing ok or can you take a big thing and just use something like a different color and say “ok that’s original.” So like above I think using that Fantastic Four to create Cyborg Superman is ok-they just took the basic and used it for a couple of pages but then built an entire character that has lasts for 20 years or so.
